Your hydrophilic catheter will typically contain a sterile saline solution either in a separate foil packet or in the package itself. For catheters that have a foil packet, you will burst the solution packet so that your catheter can activate. First, you should unfold the package, then fold the packet down about halfway. Next, squeeze the packet with your thumb and finger and the solution will begin to release. It is recommended to wait 30 seconds to ensure that the catheter is optimally hydrated with the sterile solution.
